Created 2,000 years ago this city has been and continues to be a major cultural, political, financial and literary center with the largest library in the world. Cordoba has produced some of the greatest scholars of history, poets, philosophers and people who left much of their knowledge behind them, such as the Roman poet Lucan, the Spanish medieval poet Juan de Mena and the rebirth of Luis de Góngora, who lived the most of his life and wrote all his most important works in Cordoba.
This city founded by the Romans in the 10th Century was the largest city in the world with over 1 million inhabitants, and today with 320,000 inhabitants is the tenth largest city in the Spanish "continent" and the third largest city of Andalusia.
